Alexander Re-elected Unopposed As SARU President For Final Term

Mark Alexander will serve a final four-year term as SARU President after standing unopposed at Monday’s nomination deadline.

Meanwhile, eight candidates—including six challengers—will vie for two open seats on the Executive Council at the May AGM.

Mr Alexander, who first assumed the role in an interim capacity in 2016 following the resignation of the incumbent, Mr Oregan Hoskins, was nominated by representatives of 11 of SARU’s member unions.

He will formally begin his third and final full term at the Annual General Meeting in Cape Town on 14 May.

Meanwhile, eight nominations were received for the two vacant positions on the SARU Executive Council.

The current office bearers, Mr Hennie Baartman and Mr Randall September, are seeking re-election for a second term.

They will face competition (in alphabetical order) from Adv Zuko Badli (Border), Ms Zelda Freitag (Mpumalanga), Ms Mimi Tau (Blue Bulls), Ms Mpho Sekulisa (Free State), Mr Ryno Opperman (Free State), and Ms Tania Vermaak (Eastern Province).

In accordance with the SARU constitution, at least one of the two candidates elected must be a woman.
