Amajita Star Completes Shock Free-Transfer Switch To Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of free agent Lazola Maku.
Maku was previously on the books of Siwelele before being released at the end of last season. However, the 19-year-old has since been snapped up by Sundowns on a free transfer.
Maku recently helped Amajita claim their third consecutive COSAFA U-20 Championship title after defeating hosts Mozambique last month, securing qualification for the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ghana next year.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are pleased to announce the signing of Lazola Maku! Yellow Nation, let’s give the youngster a proper welcome,” Sundowns said in a statement.
Maku was also part of the Amajita squad that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. After qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, they finished second in their group behind the USA to reach the Round of 16.
Although they were eventually eliminated by Colombia, reaching the knockout stages marked a historic milestone for South Africa.
Maku joins a formidable group of new arrivals at Sundowns, which includes Siyanda Ndlovu, Thabang Matuludi, Antonio Van Wyk, Cassius Mailula, Deano van Rooyen, Thabo Cele, Tsiki Ntsabeleng, and Wandile Dube.
