Boost For Stormers As Roos Extends

The Stormers received another major boost following the contract extension of highly rated loose forward Evan Roos, which will see him remain in Cape Town until at least 2028.

Roos has established himself as a pivotal figure in the Stormers lineup and has been crucial in helping the side go on an impressive ten-game undefeated streak in both the United Rugby Championship and the Investec Champions Cup.

The tenacious, combative 25-year-old who already has six tries in this campaign can now build on his 74 appearances for the Stormers as he aims to help the team regain the URC title they won in 2022, when he also won the URC Players’ Player of the Season award.

With five Springbok appearances to his name, Roos did not hide his euphoria at signing an extension.

“I could not be happier to be extending with this team. Cape Town is home, and I have a fantastic support base here, not to mention the fans and the incredible set-up we have with a strong squad and world-class coaches.

“I know that the best is yet to come from this team, and I’m just really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together going forward,” said Roos.

As Director of Rugby, John Dobson’s eye on project 2029 takes shape, he spoke of how encouraging it is to see a player of Roos’ calibre commit himself to the project.

“Evan made such a huge impact for us at a very young age; it is hard to believe he is still only 25,” Dobson said in a statement released by the club.

Speaking on Roos’ ability and temperament around the group, Dobson added:

“This extension means that we have him here for the prime of his career, and I’m convinced we are yet to see the best of him in our jersey. He is a player who has such incredible natural ability and would fit in well at any club in the world.”

“But what is perhaps more impressive is the way he carries himself around his teammates. There are few players as committed to the cause as Evan, and we are thrilled to have him stay with us.”
