DDC: Chiefs Cement Top Spot, Pirates Snap Winless Run

Kaizer Chiefs remain at the top of the Dstv Diski Challenge standings following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over bottom-placed Marumo Gallants at CUT Stadium on Saturday, which saw their unbeaten run stretch to 10 games.
Vela Khumalo’s troops have gathered 33 points in 14 outings as the Soweto giants aim to secure their first reserve league title. Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns powered themselves to a 2-1 win over TS Galaxy thanks to goals from Ntokozo Siquba and Onele Rulwana to also make it 10 games unbeaten.
David Notoane’s charges are one point shy of the log leaders, having accumulated 32 points. For Bernard Parker’s side, the home defeat to Masandawana means they have lost two consecutive matches and have dropped down to seventh place with 23 points.
SuperSport United consolidated their title credentials after overcoming 10-man Cape Town City 2-0 with goals from Manelisi Mazibuko and Oratilwe Moloisane at Malta Sports Complex on Sunday.
Matsatsantsa climbed up to third place, two points behind Amakhosi. A brace from Siphamandla Msezane saw Orlando Pirates walk away as 2-1 victors against Polokwane City at Isak Steyl Stadium and snapped their three-game winless form. However, the win had little impact on the table as the Buccaneers remained stagnant in eighth place with 22 points.
On the other hand, Richards Bay maintained its impressive performance with a 2-1 win over AmaZulu in the KZN derby, courtesy of goals from Nkosiyethu Mkhabela and Ntlonelo Bomelo at Chatsworth Stadium.
The Natal Rich Boys moved up to sixth place with 25 points amassed as they haven’t lost a match in their last five encounters. In the bottom half of the table, Sekhukhune United suffered their fourth consecutive loss after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to Magesi FC in the Limpopo derby.
In the relegation battle, Golden Arrows made it two wins on the trot with a slender 1-0 victory against Chippa United at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium as Thamsanqa Ndelu converted an 80th-minute penalty.
Abafana Besthende climbed up to 12th with 11 points collected – five above the drop zone. The Chilli Boys are winless in their last 13 matches, only Gallants, who are yet to register a win, have a longer streak. Stellenbosch FC dropped down to fourth as they were scheduled to tackle Royal AM.
Stellies will lock horns with Sundowns in their next match.
