Moodie Relishes London Return As Springboks Target Rugby Championship Glory

Springbok utility back Canan Moodie says he is looking forward to drawing on past experiences at Allianz Stadium when South Africa face Argentina in their final Rugby Championship clash next Saturday in London.

The Springboks head into the decisive match full of confidence after their emphatic 67-30 victory over Argentina at Kings Park Stadium in Durban.

The result pushed Rassie Erasmus’ side to the top of the Rugby Championship standings with 15 points, one ahead of the All Blacks.

Allianz Stadium Memories: Beating the All Blacks in 2023

Moodie has fond memories of Allianz Stadium, where he started at outside centre in the Springboks’ record 35-7 win over the All Blacks during a Rugby World Cup warm-up in 2023.

“It’s always special playing there,” said Moodie. “We have good memories from that day. But we know Argentina will come hard at us—they’re a very passionate nation, and we can’t take them lightly.”

Moodie nearly capped that famous day with a try after intercepting the ball and racing clear, but the score was disallowed due to an infringement in the buildup.

Strong South African Support in London

The Springboks can expect a vibrant atmosphere in London, where a large South African expatriate community regularly turns up in numbers to support the team.

“We need to do the job and not look at other stuff. We are going to do the job on Saturday,” Moodie added.

Springboks’ Path to Retaining the Rugby Championship

The Boks’ bonus-point win over Argentina in Durban was crucial after the All Blacks beat Australia at Eden Park earlier in the day. To retain the Rugby Championship, South Africa will need another bonus-point victory in London—or hope the Wallabies upset New Zealand in Perth.

With momentum on their side, Erasmus’ men will be determined to finish strongly and lift the trophy once again.
