Pirates To Face Last Year’s Conquerors In CAF
Orlando Pirates will once again face familiar opposition in Botswana champions Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League second round.
Galaxy defeated African Stars 6-5 on penalties on Saturday to advance to the next round of the Champions League qualifiers after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.
Pirates produced a dominant performance to crush CS Disciples 4-0 (and 4-0 on aggregate) on Friday night at Orlando Stadium, securing their place in the next round of the Champions League.
These two teams will now meet in the second round, with the first leg scheduled for the weekend of 13 and 15 September. Galaxy will host the Soweto giants at home, and the second leg will be played at Orlando Stadium on the weekend of 20th and 22nd September.
Last season, Pirates suffered an embarrassing exit at the hands of Galaxy in the same stage, losing on penalties at Orlando Stadium. This came after the Buccaneers entered the tie trailing 1-0 from the first leg clash in Botswana.
South African coach Morena Ramoreboli has inflicted heartbreak on Pirates in the past. He led lower division side Maluti FET College to a 4-1 victory over Pirates in the Nedbank Cup first round of the 2012/13 season.
