Chiefs Stay In Polokwane To Build Momentum

To demonstrate their commitment to building a strong team capable of challenging for the Betway Premiership title, Kaizer Chiefs have decided to remain in Polokwane.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi says are they staying in Polokwane after they defeated Richards Bay 2-1 in the league match on Wednesday.

That is because they are next hosting another KwaZulu-Natal side – Richards Bay at the same venue on Saturday (17:45), hoping to win two games in succession for the first time since September.

“We are going to play the second game here, we have decided not to go back to Joburg, we will stay here,” said Nabi.

“We want to put ourselves in the best conditions to attack the game on Saturday against Royal AM, that shows the importance, the seriousness that we are giving to each game.”

Chiefs will be without two key defenders for the match against Royal AM: Inacio Miguel, who is serving a last suspension, and Reeve Frosler, who was sent off against Richards Bay.

The win over Bay lifted Chiefs to sixth place in the Betway Premiership with 10 points from six matches. Prior to this victory, the team had endured a disappointing run of three games without a win, including two losses.

Nabi believes that the recent international break provided a valuable opportunity for the team to work on technical and tactical aspects of their game.

“The break allowed us to improve a lot of things – technically, tactically to be better to put the morale of our players in the right direction,” said Nabi, whose side was hammered by Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 in the Carling Knockout semi-final earlier this month.

“It has helped us a lot. On Wednesday, if the gap of the score is not that big, we believed that the performance was way better.”

He concluded the press conference with a humorous remark, acknowledging that the break had also allowed him to undergo knee surgery – “It has also helped me to get my knee surgery.”
