Chiefs Demand Money From Usuthu On Mdaka
AmaZulu will not sign Omega Mdaka as the move to the Durban-based club has hit the snag.
According to Usuthu coach Pablo Franco Martin, there were issues with regard to his former club Kaizer Chiefs, who had released him for allegedly refusing to be ball boys in October.
The player was then seen by Sportwire training with Usuthu the following month during the FIFA break, having been let go along with Puso Dithejane.
The match in question in which the players refused to be ball boys was the Carling Knockout Round of 16 against the AmaZulu at FNB Stadium last month in October, where they lost via the goal of Taariq Fielies.
That game proved to be the last for coach Molefi Ntseki, who was sacked afterward and was replaced by Cavin Johnson in the interim.
There were reports that Chiefs, having developed Mdaka, are due compensation since he is not older than 24 as per FIFA rules.
Dithejane, who was part of the Bafana Bafana B side that claimed the bronze medal in the COSAFA Cup in July, was signed by TS Galaxy.
“He (Mdaka) was training with us for a week,” said Martin.
“But from there, I think he was a good player, very interesting for the club. But I heard there was some problem with his release clause and it was impossible to finalize the deal. This is the only thing I heard and that was a long time ago and if I’m not mistaken that was November.”
Mdaka was earmarked as the long-term investment to Usuthu as reliable left-back Riaan Hanamub is likely to leave at the end of the season with Orlando Pirates a club highly interested in him.
The Namibian powerful full-back was already linked with a move to Pirates in the January transfer window and at the start of the season.
Usuthu, having failed to land Mdaka, decided to sign Sifiso Ngobeni from Mamelodi Sundowns on loan until the end of the season.
