Dr. Danny Jordaan has been re-elected as President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), securing a clear victory over his challenger, AmaZulu FC President Sandile Zungu, at the National Elective Congress on Saturday.
Jordaan will serve another four-year term, extending his tenure at the helm of South African football, where he has presided since 2013.
SAFA officially confirmed the ballot tally in a statement following the vote:
“The outcome of the SAFA Elective Congress: Dr. Danny Jordaan 157 votes; Sandile Zungu 82 votes. Dr. Jordaan is re-elected as the SAFA President.”
The elective proceedings took place under tight security at Vodacom World in Midrand. The voting body comprised delegates from SAFA’s 52 regions, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as a Special Member, and recognized Associate Members.
High-profile international and domestic observers monitored the Congress, including representatives from FIFA, CAF, COSAFA, and SASCOC. Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie was invited to observe, though official duties abroad prevented his attendance.
To guarantee electoral integrity, the Institute of Election Management Services in Africa (IEMSA)—an independent Sandton-based body founded in 2018 by former IEC vice-chairperson Terry Tselane—oversaw technical administration, voting procedures, and ballot counting.
