Chiefs Lose Third Match In The Netherlands

It’s not looking good for Kaizer Chiefs during their pre-season camp in the Netherlands as they suffered yet another loss, this time to NEC Nijmegen on Saturday.

This defeat follows earlier losses of 2-1 to Vitesse on Tuesday and a 4-0 thrashing by Utrecht on Friday.

Coming into the match against Nijmegen, Chiefs desperately needed to redeem themselves after conceding six goals and scoring only one in their previous two outings.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi once again opted for Brandon Petersen in goal, protected by a back four of Zitha Kwinika, Dillan Solomons, Inacio Miguel, and Reeve Frosler.

In midfield, Samkelo Zwane and George Matlou anchored the “engine room,” while Gaston Sirino, Tashreeq Morris, and Pule Mmodi pushed forward in advanced attacking roles.

Despite a relatively quiet first half, Sirino came close to opening the scoring for Amakhosi, using his speed to beat his marker before Argentina goalkeeper Gonzalo Crettaz pulled off a crucial save.

Nijmegen eventually broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when Koki Ogawa beat Bruce Bvuma with a well-placed shot.

Chiefs attempted to get back into the game, even after making several changes, but they couldn’t find the equalizer. With this latest loss, they have now conceded seven goals in three matches, scoring just once during their entire pre-season camp in the Netherlands.
