Jurgens Signs Permanent Deal With City

Durban City have completed the permanent signing of versatile midfielder Kyle Jurgens from Stellenbosch, following a highly successful season-long loan spell with the newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions.
Jurgens’ permanent acquisition comes as no surprise given his influential performances for the top-flight debutants, who have consistently punched above their weight this season.
His consistency remained a vital anchor for the Durban-based outfit despite a turbulent campaign that saw the club cycle through three different head coaches—beginning with Gavin Hunt, who originally brought Jurgens to the club during the pre-season.
The utility player was all smiles when Sportswire caught up with him after Wednesday morning’s training session.
City are currently finalizing preparations for Saturday’s historic final Betway Premiership clash against local rivals AmaZulu at the Chatsworth Stadium.
City require just a single point from the KwaZulu-Natal derby to mathematically guarantee a top-eight finish, adding another remarkable milestone to their fairytale debut campaign.
Jurgens has been a virtual ever-present for the club this term, racking up 31 appearances across all competitions and chipping in with two assists.
Caretaker coach Pitso Dladla, who has repeatedly praised the player’s tactical flexibility, proudly confirmed that the player is now officially a permanent asset.
“Kyle Jurgens is our player,” Dladla firmly stated.
Dladla further cleared up lingering transfer ambiguity by confirming that teenage sensation Luphumlo Sifumba is a Durban City player on a permanent deal from Cape Town City, dispelling initial rumors that his arrival was merely a temporary loan agreement.
The coaching staff faced a completely different reality regarding the rest of their temporary roster. Dladla confirmed that Terrence Mashego (Mamelodi Sundowns), Taahir Goedeman (Cape Town City), Sphiwe Mahlangu, and Ronaldo Maarman (both on loan from Sekhukhune United) are all on loan, legally scheduled to return to their respective parent clubs when the window opens.
Sportswire understands, however, that Durban City management is aggressively pursuing a deal to secure Mashego from Sundowns.
The Bafana Bafana left-back faces an incredibly steep uphill battle for game time at Chloorkop, where Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga, and Fawaaz Basadien sit firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.
Sundowns’ congested defensive stable similarly forced the Brazilians to ship out promising young fullback Asekho Tiwani to Stellenbosch during the January transfer window in a mirror-image bid to secure regular first-team minutes.
