Ndlovu: “We Will Fight With Everything”
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Siyanda Ndlovu has vowed to give everything against former club Golden Arrows as the Brazilians look to overturn their first-leg defeat on Sunday.
Sundowns face Arrows in the MTN8 semifinal second leg at King Zwelithini Stadium, knowing they have work to do after suffering a disappointing 1-0 home defeat last weekend. The result handed Abafana Besthende the advantage heading into the decisive encounter.
For Ndlovu, the match carries extra significance as he prepares to face his former club again after joining Sundowns during the off-season.
The midfielder started the first leg against Arrows, making his first appearance in the Brazilians’ starting XI since joining the club. He will be hoping to retain his place for Sunday’s crucial encounter.
With Sundowns needing at least two goals to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive, Ndlovu has promised that the team will fight until the end. He also believes they can overcome the strategy Arrows employed in the first leg.
“I think this is a big game, and it will be tough,” Ndlovu said.
“But what I can say and also promise the fans is that we will fight with everything we have. We have to score goals as we did against AmaZulu.”
Sundowns found their scoring boots on Wednesday, beating Arrows’ city rivals AmaZulu 5-2 in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Stadium.
“If we can score many goals, I think that will help us win. I think Arrows will come to us with the strategy they used last week, so I think this time we will overcome them.”
Sundowns have fond memories of facing Arrows in the MTN8. In the 2021/22 campaign, the Brazilians beat Abafana Besthende 4-1 on aggregate in the semifinals before going on to lift the trophy.
Sundowns are also looking to improve their record in a competition that has not been particularly kind to them over the years. The Brazilians have won the MTN8 just once in the past 18 years.
Orlando Pirates will await the winner in the final after securing their place with a victory over Sekhukhune United at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.
