Unbeaten Magesi Dominant As Cape Town City Storm Into MFC Top Three

Matchday seven of the Motsepe Foundation Championship delivered an exciting weekend of action, with Magesi and Real Native returning to winning ways while Cape Town City climbed into the top three.

Magesi bounced back from last weekend’s disappointing draw against North-West University with a convincing 3-1 victory over Venda FC in the Limpopo Derby at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Following the victory, Dikwena Tsa Meetse remained at the top of the standings with 17 points. They are also the only team yet to suffer defeat this season, continuing their impressive start to the campaign.

Real Native also returned to winning ways after losing to Hungry Lions last weekend. Native secured a narrow 1-0 victory over The Bees in the Mpumalanga Derby at Kanyamazane Stadium, keeping them in second place with 15 points.

Meanwhile, Cape Town City climbed to third place with 14 points after securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over Gomora United at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday.

In another match played on Friday, Highbury suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Lerumo Lions at Nelson Mandela University Stadium.

Thursday’s only encounter took place at Athlone Stadium, where Hope FC and Midlands Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw.

Saturday’s action also saw North-West University claim a 1-0 victory over Leicesterford City, while the University of Pretoria suffered a 2-0 defeat against Hungry Lions.

In the final match of the day, Upington City secured a 2-0 victory over Orbit College at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium to round off the weekend’s fixtures.

With seven matchdays completed, Magesi continue to lead the standings, Real Native remain second, and Cape Town City have moved into the top three as the Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign gathers momentum.
