Broos Remains Confident Ahead Of Crucial AFCON Match Against Zimbabwe

As Bafana Bafana prepares to face Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup of Nations last group stage match on Monday at Stade de Marrakech, coach Hugo Broos remains confident that his team can secure a spot in the knockout stage.

This match is a highly anticipated one, with both teams knowing that a victory would secure their place in the knockout stage.

The two teams recently faced each other in October in the FIFA World Cup match qualifiers, where The Warriors almost prevented Bafana Bafana from qualifying for the World Cup with a 0-0 draw at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

With the stakes high and the opponent tough, Broos believes his team is well-prepared for the challenge.

“This is an important game for us, and we can qualify for the next round,” Broos said.

“We’re in a similar position to the last edition of the AFCON in the Ivory Coast. We were also in a situation where we didn’t have to lose, and that’s the same thing now on Monday.

“If we don’t lose the game, then we’re in the next round, and that’s the most important thing for us.”

Broos acknowledged that Zimbabwe would be a tough opponent, having faced them several times in the past, including in World Cup and AFCON qualifiers.

“We all know that the opponent will be a tough one because it’s not the first time we face them,” Broos added.

“Four years as a coach in South Africa, when we played World Cup and AFCON qualifiers, Zimbabwe was in our group, and we know them very well.

“It will be a tough game, but we need to achieve what we want to, so that we’ll get a good result.”

In the same group, Egypt has already qualified for the knockout stage and will face Angola, which is also aiming to reach the knockout stage.

However, Angola’s fate depends on Bafana’s game against Zimbabwe. A win for Angola would be crucial if Bafana and Zimbabwe play a draw, but for now, Bafana’s focus is on securing a spot in the next round.
