Mdaka Praises Amajita After Semifinal Win Over Nigeria

Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka expressed his pride and admiration for his team’s performance after their 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the semifinal of the AFCON U20 tournament on Thursday at the Suez Canal Stadium.

The win marked a significant milestone for Amajita, booking their spot in the final against Morocco on Sunday at the 30 June Stadium.

“Yes, another win, congratulations to the boys,” Mdaka said, commending his team’s discipline, tactical awareness, and technical skill.

“What a good job, good character, very disciplined, sticking to the agreements. We really appreciate it.”

The former Marumo Gallants coach also highlighted the growth and development of his players, noting that they were improving with each match.

“As much as it was not easy, our boys are growing in every match, growing in character and growing in everything,” he said.

“Thank you so much and well done, boys, and well done for the country.”

The victory was sealed by a stunning header from Stellenbosch defender Tylon Smith in the second half, who also won the Man of the Match award for his stellar performance.

This marked Smith’s second Man of the Match award in the tournament, a testament to his exceptional skill and dedication.

This is the second time Amajita has reached the final of the AFCON U20, with their previous appearance in 1997 resulting in a loss to Morocco.

Determined to make amends, Amajita will be looking to claim their first-ever AFCON U20 title when they face Morocco again in the final on Sunday.

Morocco booked their spot in the final after beating host nation Egypt in their semifinal match, also held on Thursday.
