Mutizwa Still Shocked By Golden Arrows Exit

Richards Bay striker Knox Mutizwa says he is still shocked by the circumstances surrounding his departure from Golden Arrows.

Mutizwa was suspended for misconduct last season and, after failing to improve his behaviour, the club decided to terminate his contract.

His exit was a major blow for Arrows, as he remains their all-time leading goal scorer, having netted 63 goals in 231 appearances.

The Zimbabwean international also scored the winning goal in Arrows’ 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium in March — his third goal in 14 matches across all competitions last season.

“Even to me it was a surprise,” Mutizwa told Sportswire, breaking his silence.

“Remember, I stayed there for eight years, so it was also a surprise to me. But you know, life is like that — we must always be prepared.

“It’s not like I’m angry or anything. If they had issues, that’s on them. But personally, I don’t have any issues with them.”

Mutizwa, who surpassed Mabhuti Khenyeza as Arrows’ all-time top scorer, has made a bright start to life at Richards Bay.

He has already scored three goals in two matches, including one in the 2-1 loss to Orbit College in their most recent outing.

Before that, the 32-year-old striker bagged a brace as Bay thrashed Chippa United 4-1 at the Umhlathuze Sports Ground in the Carling Knockout Round of 16.

The Natal Rich Boys, who have reached the semi-finals of the past two editions of the tournament, will host Durban City in the quarter-finals on Saturday (15:00) at Umhlathuze Sports Ground.

On his impressive form, Mutizwa added: “You can see everything is going well. For me, personally, three goals in two games means a lot. When people support you, you must try by all means to repay that faith by scoring goals.”
