SA Referee To Officiate Mali-Tunisia AFCON Match

The South African top referee, Abongile Tom, has been appointed to officiate the highly anticipated round of 16 match between Mali and Tunisia at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Saturday.

In the match scheduled to kick off at 21:00, Tom will be assisted by fellow South African match official Zakhele Siwela, who will serve as the first assistant referee.

The Lesothan match official, Souru Phatsoane, will be the second assistant referee in a match that promises to be intense.

Ahmad Imtehaz will serve as the fourth official, while Brighton Chimene, Diana Chikotesha, and Hamza El Fariq will work as Video Assistant Referees, assisting Tom. Lemghaifry Bouchaab will be the referee assessor.

The 2018/19 PSL Referee of the Season will be officiating a match that promises to be thrilling, as these two rivals will face each other for the fourth time in the AFCON.

Tunisia is yet to find a victory, while Mali has won twice and played two draws. This will be their first knockout stage meeting, as the previous AFCON clashes were in the group stage in 1994, 2019, 2021, and also in the last edition, which was held in the Ivory Coast in 2024.

In the ongoing AFCON edition, Mali finished in second position in Group A with three points from three draws and will be aiming to find their first victory against Tunisia. Tunisia, which won the AFCON in 2004, on the other hand, finished in second position in Group C with a win, a loss, and a draw.
