Vilakazi Set To Depart Amidst Rumors Of Internal Disputes

AmaZulu co-coach Vusi Vilakazi is reportedly set to leave the club, according to Sportswire.
The departure is rumored to stem from disagreements between Vilakazi and his co-coach Arthur Zwane, who joined AmaZulu in October last year following the dismissal of Franco Pablo Martin.
At the time of Zwane’s arrival, AmaZulu were at the bottom of the Betway Premiership after losing their first three matches. The co-coaches have since stabilized the team’s performance.
AmaZulu currently sit fifth in the league table with 26 points from 19 matches.
Their recent climb in the standings follows a 3-0 victory over Magesi FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Sources indicate that Vilakazi desires to be the club’s sole head coach. He was initially promoted to the senior team as a co-coach after serving as the club’s DStv Diski Challenge coach.
Another source claims that Zwane is perceived as the more dedicated of the two coaches, and that Vilakazi’s attitude sometimes impacts the team. Specifically, it’s alleged that Vilakazi prefers single training sessions, while Zwane advocates for double sessions.
The source further stated that Vilakazi informed club president Sandile Zungu of his intention to resign on Monday night.
Vilakazi joined AmaZulu after helping Richards Bay avoid relegation from the Betway Premiership last season through the promotion/relegation playoffs.
Following Richards Bay’s survival and the securing of a R100 million, three-year sponsorship from Phakwe Gas during the off-season, CEO Thabiso Tenyane expressed a desire for a high-profile coach, with the club reportedly showing interest in Rulani Mokwena.
This marks Vilakazi’s third coaching stint in the KwaZulu-Natal province. He previously served as a co-coach at Golden Arrows before leaving in September last year to become the technical director at Chippa United.
