Broos: We Had To Correct Something In the Second Half

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos stated that he made adjustments during the second half because he was dissatisfied with the team’s performance in the first half of their 2-0 victory over Lesotho in the FIFA World Cup qualifier at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday evening.

Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams scored the two goals for Bafana, and these were their first goals for the national team.

Broos’ side welcomed back Percy Tau and Lyle Foster as they were leading the attack alongside Elias Mokwana. Foster and Tau missed Bafana’s last games last year as Foster was injured while Tau was not called because he was not getting enough game time at Al Ahly.

“It was very important today that we had the three points,” Broos said on SABC Sport after the game.

“We knew that it should be a tough game. We had four good chances in the first half and were supposed to score, so had to correct something.

“When started very well in the second half and immediately there was pressure. Once we scored the first goal they did the most difficult.

“We scored a little bit late in the game, but the most important thing is that we have a victory today and we also have three points.”

Following this victory, Bafana moved to the top of Group C with 10 points after five matches, two ahead of second-placed Benin and third-placed Rwanda, who lost to Nigeria in Kigali on Friday.

Bafana Bafana will now fly on a chartered flight for the next game against Benin at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Ivory Coast on Tuesday.

The last time these two sides faced each other, South Africa won 2-1 through Tau and Khuliso Mudau’s goals in the first round at Moses Mabhida Stadium in November 2023.
