Basadien Keeps Focus On Stellenbosch Despite Big-Three Interest

Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafana left-back Fawaaz Basadien has addressed the speculation surrounding his future amid strong links to Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates.

Despite the interest from South Africa’s biggest clubs, Basadien emphasized his immediate focus remains on his current team and personal improvement.

“For me, it’s about focusing on what I can control,” Basadien stated in a press conference ahead of Bafana Bafana’s friendly match against Tanzania at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday [19:30].

“All the rumors exist, and it’s nice to have that as a player. But my main focus is to use whatever opportunity I get to play, to do well, keep doing what I’m doing, and keep improving each day.”

For now, it remains unclear whether Basadien will continue playing for Stellies or not as his contract expires at the end of this month.

However, the talented defender stressed that his priority is to continue performing well for Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafana.

“For me, in football, there comes a time where you want to achieve greater things and play for the so-called big clubs or make big moves,” the former Moroka Swallows defender added.

“It’s just about the timing when it’s right for you. For me, my main focus is not on wanting to move now.

“I would like it, but my main thing is just to keep on playing and improving each day.”

As Basadien prepares to captain Bafana Bafana against Tanzania, his impressive performances in the PSL and continental level have made him a hot topic in transfer discussions.

With 46 appearances, seven goals, and eight assists for Stellenbosch in all competitions this past season, Basadien’s future in South African football looks bright, regardless of which club he represents next.
