Pirates Part Ways With Two More Players

Orlando Pirates has confirmed the departure of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane following the expiration of their contracts.
Both players found themselves playing a secondary role in the team. Deon Hotto was often preferred at left-back, the position typically occupied by Mako, while Monyane also struggled for game time. Monyane’s place in the squad was effectively taken by Deano van Rooyen, whom Pirates signed from Stellenbosch at the start of this past season.
“We bid farewell to Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane,” read a statement from Pirates. “The Club thanks them for their commitment and contribution to Orlando Pirates, and we wish them the very best in their next chapters.”
Monyane, now 25, was promoted by Pirates in the 2019/20 season from the DStv Diski Challenge. During his time with the club, he won the MTN8 four times and two Nedbank Cups. He played in 95 matches, including 12 this past season, contributing four goals and three assists.
Mako, 31, joined Pirates from Chippa United ahead of the 2018/19 season. He also won four MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups. Additionally, he was part of the squad that finished as league runners-up four times during his tenure with Pirates. He featured in 173 matches, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.
Mako and Monyane are the latest players to depart Pirates, following Miguel Timm and Innocent Maela. However, reports suggest that Maela might be retained by the club, with discussions ongoing regarding a potential new role for him.
