SuperSport Likely To Sell Mbatha To Pirates: Hunt
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt says the club would mostly like to sell Thalente Mbatha to Orlando Pirates next season.
Hunt said the player was struggling to break in at the club because Grant Magerman and Siphesihle Ndlovu are doing well on his side and better than Mbatha.
The KwaMashu-born player, who was loaned out in the January transfer window, has been brilliant since he crossed to the Mayfair club.
He was unlucky as Pirates drew 1-1 with Moroka Swallows on Wednesday, seeing his goal chalked off because he was flagged offside when he was not.
“I mean, he can’t make our team, can he?” Hunt told Sportswire.co.za
“Is he better than Magerman? Is he better than Ndlovu? Is he better than Gape (Moralo)? You know what I’m trying to say.
“He wasn’t making the team, and they (Pirates) came up, they wanted to buy him, they wanted to have a look at him (first), so fantastic.
“He couldn’t make the team. It’s okay to play a bit part here and there, but he was injured a lot of the time, so you tell me. It is one of those things. What they got in the midfield he is better than what they got?”
Hunt, who sounded infuriated, also hit out at journalists, asking why they didn’t question Pirates when they let go of Ndlovu, who is doing well for SuperSport now.
The former Maritzburg United midfielder permanently crossed the floor at the start of last season after he grew frustrated due to the lack of game time at Mayfair.
“I took Ndlovu to SuperSport (when he was not playing for Pirates), how good is he now? Nobody has ever said anything about Orlando Pirates because they (journalists) are scared because Orlando Pirates will phone them and threaten their lives,” fumes Hunt.
“The point I’m trying to make is, are you telling me Marcelo Allende is better than Magerman for R50 million?
“But nobody has said what he has done with us. He was our player of the year last year. Unbelievable.
“So, when the player goes to Pirates, how can you get rid of him? Maybe Pirates aren’t as good as us, I don’t know.
“But he (Mbatha) was not making the team. It’s unfortunate but he has gone on loan, he seemed to have got a deal for himself for next season, the club will sell him, and happy days.”
SuperSport, since Mbatha left, is without a league win in 2024.
