Hyron Andrews Cause Of Death Confirmed

The Lions have confirmed that South African rugby player Hyron Andrews died from an aortic dissection while on tour in France.

The 31-year-old, who previously represented the Hollywoodbets Sharks and Sale Sharks, died on Friday, sending shockwaves through the rugby community. Matches in the Investec Champions Cup last weekend were preceded by moments of silence in his memory.

Andrews passed away while travelling with the Lions for their Investec Champions Cup campaign, which included a clash against French giants La Rochelle.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Lions confirmed that an autopsy conducted by French authorities found that Andrews died from a tear in the aorta, likely associated with an aortic aneurysm. The findings indicated that his death was due to natural causes.

The Lions said they were sharing the autopsy findings on behalf of the Andrews family. At the time of the announcement, French authorities still had custody of his body as arrangements were being made for his repatriation to South Africa.

The club also appealed for privacy and respect as the family comes to terms with the loss of their loved one. Further updates regarding funeral arrangements and the repatriation process were expected to be shared when appropriate.

In addition to representing the Sharks and Sale Sharks, Andrews also represented South Africa at youth level, including the Junior Springboks.

His passing is a devastating loss for those who knew him personally and the many supporters who followed his rugby career. Tributes from across the rugby community have highlighted the profound sadness surrounding the death of a player who still had so much to offer the game.

As the Lions and the Andrews family continue to mourn, the focus remains on supporting his wife, Maiglin, their young sons and other loved ones during this difficult time.

The rugby community stands alongside the family in remembering Andrews and honouring his contribution to the sport.

May Hyron Andrews rest in peace.
