“Don’t Smoke, Think Football” — Ouaddou Issues Stern Warning To Masilela And Padime
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou hailed youngsters Mpho Padime and Simphiwe Masilela following their 3–0 victory over Sekhukhune United in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.
Pirates have continued to place their trust in their youngsters, giving them opportunities to showcase their talents in high-pressure matches.
Masilela has earned Ouaddou’s trust since the start of the season, having started several games for the Buccaneers.
Padime, meanwhile, made his official debut for the club in their victory over Babina Noko after being introduced late in the match.
“Yes. Not only him, I think we can include Masilela in the conversation,” said Ouaddou.
“Well done to both of them. I think Pirates is a club that gives young players a chance. It’s not the first year, and we continue the process. They did really well. We saw that they have great potential.
“I saw that potential when they came to start training on June 24. But even last season, when I went to watch some DDC games, I asked Roscoe Krieling, the coach, to let me see them more in training.”
Pirates, who have booked their fifth consecutive MTN8 final appearance, will now face Mamelodi Sundowns in a blockbuster clash on October 10, with the venue yet to be announced by the PSL.
“So I had them for six months. I was not surprised by their potential. But now they must keep working. They must remain humble, keep listening and be coachable. It’s only the first few games; a career is at least 10 years,” added Ouaddou, who won the cup with Pirates in his first season at the club last year.
“When I have the opportunity to give them game time, I will definitely give it to them, but they must keep working and be very professional because in football you can rise quickly, but you can also fall quickly.
“What I’m asking from them: well done for today. Keep working. Be careful about your life. You have to be professional. Football, think football, think football. You train, you go home, you rest, you eat well, you drink water, not something else.”
Pirates, who are also top of the Betway Premiership, will face Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
“Don’t smoke. Don’t take things that can destroy your body, and think about your career. That’s my message all the time: work, work, work,” Ouaddou added.
Pirates have now secured their place in the MTN8 final and will be appearing in the showpiece for a fifth consecutive time.
