Stormers Set To Make Maart’s Move Permanent

DHL Stormers head coach John Dobson has confirmed that the club has opened discussions to retain Dylan Maart, who is currently on loan from reigning Currie Cup champions Griquas.
Maart has taken to life in Cape Town like a duck to water and has swiftly established himself as a key member of the unbeaten Stormers team, taking the United Rugby Championship by storm.
The Wellington-born player has mesmerised with his performances and has scored four tries in his four appearances – against Munster in round six of the URC, twice against La Rochelle in the Investec Champions Cup, and this past weekend in the South African derby against the Lions in his first game in front of the home fans at DHL Stadium on Saturday.
“We’re busy chatting to them (Griquas) about converting him,” said Dobson.
“He wants to stay, and the people want him to stay. Griquas are very open to it. We’ll do the conversion.”
Following the injuries to Seabelo Senatla as well as Suleiman Hartzenberg, Maart has grabbed his opportunity with both hands, shining through hard work and persistence despite the unconventional path he has taken.
“It’s weird that a broad region like us, which usually has wings falling off trees, hasn’t really got that at the moment. It’s unusual, and I don’t think it’s unique to us. It’s odd, but Dylan is important to us,” added Dobson.
Maart’s jovial, infectious spirit has endeared him to management, teammates, and fans alike, making it little wonder that all parties are interested in making the move permanent.
“He is a great guy with a great story and a great individual,” Dobson said in admiration.
