Motaung Rules Out New Coach Appointment

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that the club is not looking to appoint a new coach in the short term, opting to stick with the current coaching duo of Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

The decision comes after speculation about the team’s future following their elimination from the Carling Knockout and a slow start to the season in the Betway Premiership.

Youssef and Kaze have been in charge at Chiefs since October, after the 2025 Nedbank Cup champions parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi, and have been tasked with guiding the team through a challenging period.

The duo joined Amakhosi before the 2024/25 season started as the assistant coaches of Nabi and played a key role in ending the club’s 10-year trophy drought by winning the

Nedbank Cup.

“We do not want to disrupt the team by bringing in a new coach who would arrive wanting to do things differently from what we are currently doing,” Motaung said to Isolezwe.

“Coaches want to implement their own ideas and come with their own technical teams.

“These two gentlemen [Youssef and Kaze] have been with the team from the beginning, and we are building on that foundation. We want progress, and I believe it is clear that the team is improving.”

The decision to stick with Youssef and Kaze comes despite the team’s struggles in the league and cup competitions.

In the Betway Premiership, Chiefs are currently sitting in fourth position with 24 points in 13 games played, while in the CAF Confederation Cup, they are in third in their group with just one point in two games.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys will look to turn their fortunes around when they take on Golden Arrows on 20 January after the Africa Cup of Nations, followed by crucial Confederation Cup games.

The match against Arrows will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Amakhosi having emerged victorious in the first encounter under the guidance of Nabi.
