“The Team Comes First” – Why Velebayi Isn’t Panicking Over His Chiefs Stats

Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi is refusing to let a goal drought dampen his spirits, emphasizing patience as he finds his feet at Naturena.

Velebayi joined the Glamour Boys this season following a protracted transfer saga with Cape Town Spurs. While he has featured 10 times so far, only four of those appearances have been starts.

Despite several promising flashes on the wing, the former Spurs man is yet to register a goal or an assist in Amakhosi colors.

However, Velebayi remains unfazed by his current statistics, insisting his primary focus is collective success. He explained that as long as the team performs, personal tallies remain secondary.

“I’ve been looking to score, but also don’t want to pressure myself too much because I know the team comes first,” said Velebhayi.

“I am always looking to score, and I am always looking to assist, which is every game I’m looking to do. As I said, I don’t want to put too much pressure because the team comes first. If the team is doing well, I am happy. But I know that it’s important to get stats for myself as well.”

Velebayi will be hunting for his first goal contribution this Sunday when the Soweto Giants host TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium.
