Stellenbosch Secure Hunt On Long-Term Deal

Stellenbosch has confirmed that coach Gavin Hunt has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

Hunt, a four-time league title winner, arrived on a short-term deal in December following the departure of Steve Barker.

At the time, Stellies were battling relegation, but the 61-year-old guided them up the table to secure a ninth-place finish in the Betway Premiership this season.

The former SuperSport United coach, who has taken charge of more than 1,000 top-flight matches in South African football, will now continue leading the team after putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal.

“I’m very excited about the project we’re building at Stellenbosch FC,” Hunt said in a club statement.

“This is a fantastic club with fantastic facilities and is run very professionally.

“The staff, whom I inherited when I arrived, have been very welcoming and supportive, and we share a fresh and positive outlook for the future.

“You can never forget what has happened in the past, when the club was very successful under the previous coaching regime, and we want to get back to that level where we can be competitive again.

“It’s not going to be easy, and it’s not going to happen overnight, but we have an opportunity to rebuild the team, and I’m happy to have been entrusted with that responsibility.”

Hunt was in charge of 22 matches in all competitions this season, winning seven, drawing eight, and losing seven.
