Pirates Confirm Soweto Derby Tickets Sold Out In Record Time
Orlando Pirates have confirmed that tickets for the upcoming Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 31 October completely sold out within hours of going on sale on Wednesday.
Supporters snapped up every available seat across authorized outlets before the end of the day, ensuring a capacity crowd of over 90,000 will pack the iconic Calabash for South Africa’s biggest sporting fixture.
Pirates serve as the home team for this 185th edition of the rivalry, having taken four points off Amakhosi last season en route to capturing their first Betway Premiership title in 14 years.
What are the Current Betway Premiership Standings Ahead of the Derby?
The title-defending Buccaneers enter the derby in blistering form, sitting second in the Betway Premiership table with 22 points from eight matches—just one point behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played an extra game.
Midweek results further amplified the contrasting momentum between the Soweto giants:
- Orlando Pirates: Cruised to a dominant 3-0 win over TS Galaxy at Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday.
- Kaizer Chiefs: Were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium.
With title-race pressure mounting and a sold-out Calabash waiting, Orlando Pirates will look to convert their home-ground advantage into three crucial points, while Kaizer Chiefs, who are fourth in the table, seek a season-defining turnaround.
Stadium authorities have urged ticket holders to arrive early on 31 October to avoid traffic delays around the NASREC precinct.
