Moremi Strikes Again As Pirates Edge African Stars In Botswana

Orlando Pirates hold the advantage after securing a 1-0 victory over African Stars in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second qualifying round tie at Botswana National Stadium on Saturday.

Tshepang Moremi’s goal proved decisive, handing the Soweto giants a valuable away victory.

Pirates will now look to finish the job when they host African Stars in the second leg at Orlando Amstel Arena on Friday.

The Buccaneers headed into the encounter full of confidence after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership earlier this week.

Despite dominating the opening half, Pirates struggled to convert their chances, with both Yanele Mbuthuma and Simphiwe Masilela missing opportunities to put their side ahead.

The Buccaneers continued to apply pressure, keeping the hosts under siege for much of the first half. However, their attacking efforts failed to produce a breakthrough, with the sides going into the interval locked at 0-0.

The second half saw Pirates continue to search for the opening goal, although they were initially unable to make their chances count.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 75th minute when Moremi found the back of the net to give the visitors a crucial lead.

The goal marked the winger’s fifth of the season in just his 10th appearance.

Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side will now turn their attention to the return leg, where they will look to build on their first-leg advantage and secure their place in the next round of the competition.
