“A Good Way To End It” – Galaxy Veteran Eyes Historic Second Cup Title

TS Galaxy midfielder Mlungisi Mbunjana has reflected on what it would mean to bring silverware to the club as one of its longest-serving players.

Mbunjana has an opportunity to win his first title with Galaxy when they face Durban City in the Nedbank Cup final at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

With all of the traditional “big three” teams eliminated from the competition, Galaxy have a chance to make history once again, having previously lifted the trophy in 2019 after defeating Kaizer Chiefs in the final.

A victory on Saturday would secure the club’s second Nedbank Cup title, despite their current struggles in the Betway Premiership.

“It would be very special—amazing—if God blesses us with this cup,” said Mbunjana.

“It would mean a lot. I don’t know how many years we [including Mpho Mvelase] still have left in the game, so it would be a great way to finish if we could do so with silverware. It would be a beautiful moment.”

Following the departure of Adnan Beganovic, Mbunjana also highlighted the value of Bernard Parker’s experience as interim coach ahead of the final.

“Losing a final is painful—you don’t want to go through that again. Fortunately, we have someone like Bernard Parker, who has won many cup finals,” Mbunjana said.

“He’s been sharing his experience and what worked for him and his teams. We’re trying to take in as much as possible from that and apply it.”
