AmaZulu Sign Bay Top Defender

Sportswire has been informed that AmaZulu, currently in the process of releasing several players, have secured the services of highly sought-after defender Keagan Allan from Richards Bay.

Allan, a product of Mamelodi Sundowns’ academy, was a cornerstone for Richards Bay last season, playing a pivotal role in the club’s historic top-eight finish.

Sportswire understands that Allan, who has also played for SuperSport United, Moroka Swallows, and the University of Pretoria, signed a short-term deal with the Natal-based club.

Allan’s departure will undoubtedly be a significant blow to Richards Bay, as the 24-year-old was an ever-present figure in their squad. He featured in 25 league matches last season and scored one goal, playing alongside captain Simphiwe Mcineka in defense during Bay’s memorable campaign.

This consistent performance is precisely what attracted Usuthu to seize the opportunity to sign Allan, given their own defensive struggles last season. AmaZulu conceded 34 goals while scoring only 29, despite managing to finish in the top six, two positions ahead of Richards Bay.

Usuthu is actively strengthening their squad following a significant number of departures, including Thembela Sikhakhane, Wayde Jooste, Rowan Human, Abbubaker Mobara, and Boniface Haba. The future of Tariq Fielies also remains uncertain, particularly after his underwhelming performance in Usuthu’s 5-0 loss to Stellenbosch at King Zwelithini Stadium.

These changes at Usuthu were anticipated, especially after coach Arthur Zwane was retained by the club for the upcoming season following their top-eight finish. It is rumored that Zwane, known as Mangethe, was displeased with the attitude of some players, particularly within the dressing room.

Allegations suggest that some players had been using expletives to express their frustrations, which reportedly did not sit well with coach Zwane. This situation reportedly led to instances such as Mobara’s suspension before the club ultimately decided to part ways with him.
