“Best Scenario Is Two Months”: Dobson Confirms Major Injury Blows

The Stormers are facing a significant challenge in the front-row department, with head coach John Dobson confirming that injuries to Andre-Hugo Venter and Deon Fourie could keep both players sidelined for an extended period.
Providing an update on their injury situation, Dobson revealed that Venter faces a lengthy recovery, with the possibility of surgery potentially ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
“Our best scenario is two months, but if they do need to operate, it could be eight to nine months,” Dobson revealed.
The uncertainty surrounding Venter’s injury also provides further context to the Stormers’ decision-making regarding their hooker options, including the situation involving Bongi Mbonambi.
Dobson also confirmed that Fourie has sustained a Grade Three hamstring injury. Although the initial diagnosis suggests a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the experienced forward appears to be responding positively.
“He says he is not feeling it and that it doesn’t feel like a Grade Three, which means we can shorten it to around three months. My gut says he will be out for three months,” Dobson explained.
Fourie’s absence is particularly significant, with Dobson revealing that the veteran forward would have been in line to start at hooker this week had he been available.
The Stormers could potentially have managed their forward resources for the current week with rookie Altus Rabe, Scarra Ntubeni and Vernon Paulo available. However, the longer-term nature of Venter and Fourie’s injuries has complicated matters.
“They are two long-term injuries,” Dobson concluded.
With both players facing extended periods on the sidelines, the Stormers will need to carefully manage their hooker resources as they navigate the challenges ahead. Much will depend on the eventual decision regarding Venter’s treatment and Fourie’s progress during his rehabilitation.
