Chaine Credits Coach’s Belief For Stella Performance

In a season marked by resilience and redemption, Sipho Chaine, the hero behind Orlando Pirates’ 10th Nedbank Cup title, attributes his stellar performance to the unwavering faith of his coach, Jose Riveiro.

Chaine’s heroics proved pivotal as the Buccaneers staged a dramatic comeback against Mamelodi Sundowns at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, clinching their record-extending championship.

The turning point arrived early in the final when Sundowns were awarded a penalty. As Lucas Costa Ribeiro stepped up, the Orlando Pirates faithful held their breath. This was Chaine’s moment, and he rose to the occasion with a crucial save that set the tone for the rest of the match.

Reflecting on his journey, Chaine spoke about the importance of belief, drawing parallels between his experiences in football and beyond.

“Someone who believes in you is crucial in every aspect of life, whether it’s in football or the media industry,” Chaine emphasized.

“There are countless journalists out there, and they choose who they focus on,” he added, highlighting the competitive nature of the media.

For Chaine, it was Riveiro’s belief that made the difference. “I just needed someone to believe in my abilities, and for me, that person was Coach Jose. He came in, and I haven’t changed who I am. Everyone knows me as Sipho. I constantly strive to improve, to be better every day, in every training session and every game,” Chaine explained.

Chaine’s journey this season exemplifies the power of focus and dedication, especially for a goalkeeper.

“As a goalkeeper, you need laser focus for the entire 90 minutes, or even longer during extra time or penalties. For myself, I try to maintain complete concentration in every situation I face during a game. Today, it happened to be a penalty. I’m glad I could contribute to the team’s victory in that crucial moment,” Chaine confessed.

While Chaine was instrumental in the team’s success, he was quick to share the credit with the entire Pirates’ staff. “This is a collective effort driven by the technical team. It’s not just the fitness trainer; it’s everyone – the analyst, the head coach, the assistant coach, the goalkeeper coach – everyone works together to achieve these victories. That’s what makes it easier for everyone,” he noted, highlighting the collaborative spirit that has propelled the team to the championship.

As the Orlando Pirates celebrate their triumphant season, fans and teammates alike acknowledge the immense contribution of Sipho Chaine’s unwavering presence in goal. His story transcends the saves he made; it’s a testament to the power of belief and perseverance that fueled an unforgettable season
