Chaine, Petersen, And Goss Up For Goalkeeper Of The Season
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the three nominees for the Goalkeeper of the Season award: Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates, Brandon Petersen of Kaizer Chiefs, and Ricardo Goss of Siwelele FC.
Notably absent from the shortlist is Ronwen Williams, despite helping Mamelodi Sundowns win the CAF Champions League last season.
It is the first time since joining Sundowns in July 2022 that Williams has not been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Season award.
Chaine, the reigning Goalkeeper of the Season, is the overwhelming favourite to retain the accolade, having helped Pirates win the Betway Premiership title.
The Pirates shot-stopper enjoyed another outstanding campaign, keeping a record 21 clean sheets in 30 league matches while conceding just 11 goals. He also made history by becoming the first goalkeeper in the PSL era to record 21 clean sheets in a single league season.
Petersen also impressed during his first season as Kaizer Chiefs captain. The former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper kept 15 clean sheets in 23 league appearances while conceding only 13 goals. Despite his excellent domestic campaign, Petersen ultimately missed out on selection for South Africa’s FIFA World Cup squad.
Goss also earned recognition after a consistent season for Siwelele. The experienced goalkeeper recorded 14 clean sheets in 29 league matches while conceding 25 goals, securing his place among the three nominees for the prestigious award.
