Chaine Ready For Sekhukhune Challenge

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is gearing up for a tough challenge as his team takes on Sekhukhune United in the opening game of the Betway Premiership season at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.  

Chaine knows that Sekhukhune is a formidable opponent, having given them a tough time last season as they won at the same venue in Soweto in the second half.

“Sekhukhune is a very difficult side to play against in our first game of the season, and I think you saw that last season; it was not easy to face them,” Chaine said.

The Buccaneers finished second in the league last season, while Sekhukhune finished fourth, narrowly missing out on a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite the challenge ahead, Chaine is confident that his team can start the season on a high note.

“I think we’re working hard to look and try what they can do so that we’ll win this game because we want to start very well,” he said.

“As Orlando Pirates, we are playing every game to win. I think this season our main objective is to fight for every available trophy.”

The 28-year-old, who won the Goalkeeper of the Season award last season, has set personal objectives for the new season.

“I think an opportunity for me is to play every domestic game, and I think what I can control is to be better in every game that I’m playing,” the former Chippa United goalkeeper added.

“So, my full focus is to get better in every game I play, and also be a better goalkeeper. I think that’s my main objective coming to this season, and I will forget about what happened last season but focus on this season.”

With a strong focus on improvement and a desire to win every game, Chaine and Pirates are ready to take on Sekhukhune and make a statement in the Betway Premiership this season.
