Chiefs Discussing Khune’s Future

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung, has addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune’s future at the club.

The 37-year-old Khune has expressed his desire to continue playing for a few more seasons, despite his contract with Chiefs expiring at the end of June.

Motaung urges fans to be patient, as the club negotiates a new deal. This deal might include a coaching role for Khune, even though he desires to remain on the pitch.

“It’s a process, and that’s why I ask for patience to allow us that when we make an announcement, we make the right announcement,” Motaung said on Monday.

Khune’s previous one-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs expired on 30 June. This makes him a free agent, technically allowing him to consider offers from other clubs.

Following the club’s initial announcement that Khune wouldn’t continue as a player, there’s been significant uncertainty regarding his future association with Chiefs.

Motaung acknowledges Khune’s 25 years of loyalty to the club and assures fans that management is exploring ways to reintegrate him within the club’s structure, possibly in a coaching capacity.

“Well, I mean Khune is part of the family, you know he is like a young brother to me, and 25 years is quite a long time.”

Motaung added, “We are working behind the scenes in engaging with him and looking at the opportunities that we can work together.”

While the Soweto Giants have bolstered their technical team with new recruits, including head coach Nasreddine Nabi, the focus on Khune’s future continues.

Motaung commends the work done by management and emphasizes the importance of trust and support from the Chiefs faithful.

“I am very happy about the work that has been done behind the scenes and I look forward also to our supporters playing their role in terms of supporting the initiatives that the club has taken and trusting us as a management and as a team,” she said.
