Chiefs Strengthen Goalkeeping Department For CAF Campaign

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, who parted ways with Sekhukhune United a few days ago.

According to Sekhukhune, Leaner left the club after the two parties failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.

The 28-year-old now joins Amakhosi, where he will compete for the No. 1 jersey with club captain Brandon Petersen, Fiacre Ntwari and Bruce Bvuma.

“Leaner becomes a Khosi,” Chiefs said in a statement.

“Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of renowned shot-stopper Renaldo Leaner.

“We proudly welcome Renaldo to the Khosi Nation!”

Leaner made 45 appearances in all competitions for Sekhukhune between the 2023/24 and 2025/26 seasons, keeping 15 clean sheets.

Twenty-three of those appearances came last season, during which he recorded 10 clean sheets.

The former Cape Town Spurs goalkeeper, who also had a spell with Maritzburg United (now Durban City), had been linked with a return to the Durban-based club before completing his move to Chiefs.

Over the course of his PSL career, Leaner has made 62 appearances, conceding 59 goals while keeping 21 clean sheets.

He becomes Chiefs’ second signing ahead of the new season after the club secured the services of Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch.

Chiefs, who will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season after finishing third in the league last term, recently appointed Fernando da Cruz as the club’s new head coach.
