DDC Wrap: Stellies Move Top, Chiefs Thump Arrows

Stellenbosch FC moved to the summit of the DStv Diski Challenge table after claiming a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City at Seshego Stadium on Sunday.
Langelihle Phili, who has been promoted to the first team, scored the goal for Stellies.
The defending champions have accumulated 41 points from 17 league outings as they dislodged Mamelodi Sundowns at the top. Masandawana are on 38 points and dropped down to third place after having the weekend off.
Sundowns was not in action as they were scheduled to play against beleaguered Royal AM. Following a defeat to the Brazilians in their last match, Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways with a resounding 4-0 win against Golden Arrows as Naledi Hlongwane bagged a brace.
Vela Khumalo’s charges ascended to second place on the reserve league standings with 39 points collected and a game in hand. On the other hand, SuperSport United played out to a 2-2 draw with Cape Town City at Giant Stadium.
The Tshwane-based outfit descended to fourth place but remains in contention for the title, level on points with their cross-town rivals Sundowns. For the Citizens, the stalemate saw them sink two places to seventh place.
Meanwhile, deadly forward Siphamandla Msezane propelled Orlando Pirates to a 3-1 win over festival hosts Magesi FC on Saturday. The Buccaneers’ starlet took his tally to 12 league goals, making him the outright top goal scorer in the competition.
Joseph Makhanya’s side is currently in sixth place and level on 31 points with fifth-placed Richards Bay, who eased past Marumo Gallants 2-1 at Chatsworth Stadium thanks to goals from Sithembiso Makhaye and Ntlonelo Bomelo, with the latter netting his 10th of the campaign.
In Gqeberha, Chippa United stretched their winless run to a staggering 17 matches after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy. The Chilli Boys are in 14th place as AmaZulu and Sekhukhune United fired blanks for a goalless draw.
