Debut Delight! Hermann Smashes Stunning 150 As Proteas Crush Namibia

Jordan Hermann announced himself on the international stage in stunning fashion as the Proteas cruised to a 99-run DLS victory over Namibia in the first ODI in Windhoek on Wednesday.

Making his ODI debut, Hermann produced a magnificent 150 off 126 deliveries, striking 17 fours and three sixes to equal the record for the highest score by a batter on ODI debut. He now shares the record with compatriot Matthew Breetzke, who scored 150 off 148 deliveries against New Zealand in February 2025.

The left-hander’s remarkable innings provided the foundation for South Africa’s imposing total of 348/6 in their 50 overs.

Hermann shared a dominant 190-run opening partnership with Tony de Zorzi, who contributed a composed 72 off 84 balls, as the Proteas took control of the contest.

After De Zorzi’s departure, South Africa continued to accelerate. Dewald Brevis added a brisk 33 off 28 deliveries before Corbin Bosch provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 39 off just 24 balls, including three sixes.

Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann was the pick of their bowlers, claiming 4/68 from his 10 overs, but South Africa’s batting depth proved too strong.

Rain then interrupted Namibia’s chase, resulting in the hosts being set a revised target of 262 from 31 overs under the DLS method.

The Proteas’ bowlers ensured there was little chance of a Namibia comeback, restricting the hosts to 162/8 from their 31 overs.

Prenelan Subrayen was the star with the ball, claiming an impressive 4/29 from six overs, while Kwena Maphaka chipped in with 2/32. Duan Jansen and Bosch claimed a wicket apiece.

Malan Kruger top-scored for Namibia with 34 off 60 balls, while JJ Smit offered some late resistance with a quick 31 off 21 deliveries.

The victory gives South Africa a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series and provides a confidence boost to a side featuring several players looking to establish themselves in the Proteas’ limited-overs setup.

For Hermann, though, it was a debut to remember.

His 150 earned him Player of the Match honours and saw him join an elite list of players to have scored a century on ODI debut.

With two ODIs still to come, South Africa will look to maintain their momentum, while Hermann will hope his remarkable debut is the beginning of a successful international career.
