Siwelele Target Lafitte As Seema Suspended Pending Inquiry

Sportswire has been informed that Siwelele are targeting former Marumo Gallants head coach Alexandre Lafitte as a potential replacement for Lehlohonolo Seema.

Seema and his assistant, fellow former Orlando Pirates defender Willem Jackson, were sacked on Monday following Siwelele’s 3-2 Betway Premiership defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

They were sacked as the Siwelele is lying 14th place in the Betway Premiership standings with two points after five matches.

However, club chairman Calvin le John subsequently clarified that the coaching duo have not been dismissed, but rather suspended pending an internal review into the club’s poor run of results.

In the interim, DStv Diski Challenge coach Godfrey Mosoetsa has been appointed to lead the senior team for Wednesday’s fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Mosoetsa, a former assistant to Kaitano Tembo at SuperSport United, guided Siwelele’s reserve team to a third-place finish in the Diski Challenge last season.

Despite Mosoetsa stepping in temporarily, sources confirm that Lafitte is being lined up to take over the head coaching role on a permanent basis.

The 29-year-old French tactician, who holds a UEFA A Licence and was the PSL’s youngest head coach last season, previously guided Gallants to the Carling Knockout Cup final before falling to cup specialists Orlando Pirates at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Lafitte was relieved of his duties in March after a seven-match losing streak across all competitions, with his final game in charge being a 1-0 defeat to Pitso Dladla’s Durban City at Lucas Moripe Stadium on 1 March.

He has remained without a club since his departure.
