Former Pirates And Chiefs Striker Joins Baroka

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siphelele Mthembu has found a new home at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC.

Mthembu, who had two stints with Chiefs, has been without a club since parting ways with Pretoria Callies in June this year. Despite his extensive experience in the league, the Melmoth-born forward was unsuccessful in securing a deal with a DStv Premiership club.

Affectionately known as “Shaka Zulu” in football circles, Mthembu joins Bakgaga Ba Ha Mphahlele on a one-year contract, according to a club insider. Newly appointed head coach Morgan Mammila believes Mthembu’s experience will be valuable to the team. The 36-year-old played in all of Callies’ league matches last season, making 30 appearances.

Mthembu has represented AmaZulu, Cape Town City, Golden Arrows, and Free State Stars during his career. Renowned for his back-to-goal play, he was a favorite of coach Benni McCarthy at both City and AmaZulu.

The veteran striker has won every domestic trophy on offer in the PSL, including the league title, Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout Cup, and three MTN8 trophies. He boasts an impressive record of 40 goals and 17 assists in 272 appearances.

Meanwhile, former Baroka captain Olaleng Shaku is returning to the Limpopo side after Platinum City Rovers’ relegation last season.
