Kenyan Referee To Officiate Bafana-Cameroon AFCON Match

Kenyan referee Peter Kamaku has been appointed to officiate the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) round of 16 clash between Bafana Bafana and Cameroon at Al Medina Stadium in Rabat on Sunday.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 21:00. Kamaku will be assisted by fellow Kenyans Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Onyango, who will serve as first and second assistant referees, respectively.
Congolese official Ngambo Ndala has been named as the fourth official, while Daniel Laryea of Ghana, Abdalaziz Ahmed of Sudan and Haggag Ibrahim of Egypt will oversee the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties. Inacio Candido of Angola will act as the match assessor.
Kamaku will officiate a fixture that promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos set to face his former national team. The Belgian tactician guided Cameroon to their fifth AFCON title at the 2017 tournament hosted in Gabon.
This will be only the second meeting between South Africa and Cameroon at the AFCON. Their first encounter came in 1996, when the host nation claimed a 3–0 victory at FNB Stadium, with goals from Phil Masinga, Mark Williams and John Moshoeu.
At 73, Broos will also make history by becoming the first coach to have led both Bafana Bafana and Cameroon when the two sides face each other. He previously coached Cameroon during the 2017 AFCON qualifiers, where the teams played out draws in both legs in South Africa and Cameroon.
