Khenyeza’s Chippa Future Uncertain Amidst Coaching Search

Mabhuti Khenyeza’s future at Chippa United is uncertain as the club actively searches for a new coach.

Chippa United currently finds itself without a head coach after parting ways with Thabo September at the conclusion of the past season, citing dissatisfaction with the team’s results.

This managerial change came about after September declined a demotion to coach the DStv Diski Challenge team for the upcoming season. September’s refusal to accept the reserve league position and subsequent departure has cast a shadow over Khenyeza’s role.

Khenyeza was appointed as September’s assistant in January, following Kwanele Kopo’s decision to leave Chippa upon the expiration of his contract.

The Chilli Boys had an opportunity to secure a top-eight finish in the PSL for only the second time in their history, but their results ultimately faltered. The club concluded the Betway Premiership season in 11th place with 31 points from 28 matches, directly leading to the coaching change.

According to a Sportswire source, it’s not uncommon for Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi to make swift decisions regarding coaching staff when results are not forthcoming, suggesting Khenyeza’s position could be precarious.

For now, Khenyeza’s future remains undecided as Chippa has yet to appoint a new head coach. It is unclear whether the incoming coach will retain Khenyeza as an assistant or bring in their own technical team for the next season. While Khenyeza being offered the head coach position is a possibility, it is considered unlikely.
