“Like A Duck To Water” — Bafana Defender Claims Top Scottish Premiership Award

Bafana Bafana defender Olwethu Makhanya has claimed the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award for September following a dominant run of form with Rangers.
The KwaZulu-Natal-born central defender completed a monthly double for the Glasgow club alongside manager Derek McInnes, who was named Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month.

The double recognition caps a flawless September for Rangers, who won all five of their fixtures across all competitions, including four crucial league victories.
Since joining from MLS outfit Philadelphia Union, Makhanya has adapted seamlessly to Scottish football.
The 22-year-old delivered standout performances throughout the month, highlighted by a commanding display in Rangers’ Old Firm derby victory over fiercest rivals Glasgow Celtic.
Makhanya has already amassed 11 appearances for Rangers this season. His club form translated directly to international level during the recent FIFA break, where he helped Bafana Bafana secure three consecutive victories against Guinea, Eritrea, and Egypt.
Reflecting on his award, Makhanya credited his teammates and support staff at Ibrox for accelerating his integration.
“I am really proud to receive this award, and I’d like to thank my teammates and all the staff for their support,” Makhanya said.
“They have helped me settle in and feel part of the group, which makes a massive difference when you join a new club. The coaches are helping me improve every day, and my teammates give me huge confidence on the pitch.”
“I’m pleased to contribute to the team’s momentum,” Makhanya added. “I want to keep working hard, keep improving, and help the team achieve the results we want.”
Following a 20-day layoff due to the extended international window, Rangers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Kilmarnock at Ibrox, aiming to build on a six-match winning streak in all competitions.
