Mass Exodus At Chippa, Including Jali

Chippa United has released a staggering number of players, 18 in total, including former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali.

Jali, who joined from Moroka Swallows at the start of last season on a one-year contract, featured in 12 matches across all competitions last term, scoring two goals in the process. The seven-time league winner, now 35 years old, is reportedly pondering retirement at the end of the season.

A video of Jali posted on social media showed him appearing not to be in footballing shape, looking overweight. He struggled with weight issues last season, which limited his appearances for the side.

Other players released include former Pirates players Craig Martin, Justice Chabalala, and Bienvenu Eva Nga. Also shown the door are Darren Johnson, who is joining AmaZulu in Durban, along with Lukhanyo July, Baraka Majogoro, Ronald Sanou, Ronald Maarman, Thobani Jacobs and Aviwe Mqokozo.

Aphelele Teto, Siphelo Baloni and Sonwabile Khumalo will return to their parent clubs “upon the conclusion of their loan agreements,” the club stated. “We extend our sincere gratitude to each of them for their service and commitment during their time at the club,” Chippa added in the statement. “Their contributions, both on and off the field, are appreciated and respected.”

Chippa United, who finished 11th in the Betway Premiership table this past season, recently appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns DStv Diski Challenge coach Sinethemba Badela as their head coach.
