Modise Backs Chiefs To Lift Nedbank Cup

Football legend Teko Modise has thrown his weight behind Kaizer Chiefs to win the Nedbank Cup, highlighting the tournament’s inherent unpredictability.

Chiefs, who last lifted the trophy in 2013, have reached the semi-finals. They now await the outcome of the quarter-final clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United.

That quarter-final match was abruptly postponed due to a scheduling conflict. The PSL, Sundowns, and SAFA had all booked the Lucas Moripe Stadium for the same date.

The stadium was intended to host the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Nigeria, which ended up being the game that was played at the venue.

In the other semi-final, defending champions Orlando Pirates will host Marumo Gallants.

The Nedbank Cup is renowned for its upsets, dramatic moments, and unpredictable football.

During a lively episode of the “Yes or No Challenge,” hosted by Nedbank Cup content creator Zenande Funani, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Modise made several bold predictions, sparking debate among fans.

From whether Iqraam Rayners would be the tournament’s top scorer to whether Peter Shalulile is already a PSL legend, Modise offered candid opinions.

However, it was his response regarding Kaizer Chiefs that truly surprised viewers. When asked if Chiefs could win the cup, he exclaimed, “Yes, please! We need them to win a trophy this season.”

Modise also emphasized the unpredictable nature of the Nedbank Cup.

With his characteristic wit, he stated, “Look, no one expects them to go far, which is exactly why they might just surprise everyone. We need someone to shake things up.”

And that’s the magic of the Nedbank Cup. It’s a tournament where anything can happen. Underdogs rise, giants fall, and every match brings moments that leave fans on the edge of their seats.

As one of the Goals vs Saves competition champions, Modise brings the ‘Goals’ side to life, where every goal scored adds R20 000 to the prize pool and every save adds R10 000 in each round of this year’s tournament.

In the round of 32 and 16, 71 goals were scored and 118 saves were made by goalkeepers, contributing to the current prize pool of R2.6 million – an amount that will be shared among MiGoals Plus and JustSave accountholders who have registered for the ‘Goals vs Saves’ competition. This prize pool will increase as the tournament progress to the final match.

While teams battle it out for glory, you too can be a winner this year with the Goals vs Saves competition! Simply open or use your MiGoals Plus or JustSave Account and register at nedbankcup.co.za  for you chance to win big.
