Moerat To La Rochelle? Stormers Captain Linked With Top 14 Move

DHL Stormers captain Salmaan Moerat is reportedly nearing a move to French giants La Rochelle.
With Ruben van Heerden already Montpellier-bound, the Springbok lock’s departure would leave the Stormers facing a critical depth shortage in the second row.
Currently sidelined after undergoing toe surgery after injury in the Stormers’ January clash against the Sharks, Moerat is expected to return in time for the URC play-offs.
While the move has not yet been finalized, Rapport reports that a few issues still need to be resolved before the deal can be confirmed.
The departure of Moerat would follow that of fellow lock Heerden, who is leaving at the end of the season for Montpellier.
This leaves the Stormers with only JD Schickerling, Adre Smith, Conor Evans, and Gary Porter to cover the lock position.
Should the deal be concluded, the Stormers will need to recruit an experienced lock, particularly after missing out on the Bulls’ Cobus Wiese last week, who opted to stay in Pretoria for family reasons.
