Beganovic Says Pirates Have What It Takes To Win The League

TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic has praised Orlando Pirates, saying they have the quality, strength, and ability to challenge any team in the Betway Premiership, and believes they can win the league this season.

This comes after Galaxy were beaten 6-0 by the Buccaneers in a league game at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday. The result marked Galaxy’s first heavy loss of the season and also gave Pirates their first big win of the campaign.

The victory moved Pirates back to the top of the Betway Premiership with 51 points in 22 games, just one point ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who have 50 points in 21 matches.

The Rockets, on the other hand, have dropped to 11th place with 25 points from 22 games, moving out of the top eight where they had been since the season began.

“We actually didn’t expect this type of game because we prepared ourselves well, and we just got a red card in the first minute, then everything started to be difficult for us,” Beganovic said.

“To play with 10 players against a team like Orlando Pirates with quality players, I think it is difficult, and not only for us but for many teams in the league. You know, too many unnecessary mistakes cost us; we even scored an own goal, and that was so difficult for us.

“We can’t fight if we can’t find how we can manage to punish a team like Orlando Pirates, and they played a top game. They have the quality to fight for the league; I wish them all the best.”

The 43-year-old coach also shared his plans for Galaxy as they head into the FIFA international break, with a focus on improving their league position and aiming for Nedbank Cup success.

“What we need now is to analyze ourselves, especially the mistakes, to try and do well, maybe in the next game,” he added.

“I think the FIFA break came at the best time to correct our mistakes, especially mentally, and then try to prepare ourselves for the rest of the season.

“We also need to think about the semifinal of the Nedbank, so we have to manage our players well, especially those who have yellow cards, so that they cannot get suspended. If we can win the Nedbank Cup, I think it will be nice, and also try to finish in the top eight.

“I think now, after this loss against Pirates, we need to fight for points so that we will see ourselves playing the MTN8 next season and also try to win the Nedbank Cup this season. This was a big lesson for us.”

When football resumes after the FIFA international break, Galaxy will host Milford in the Nedbank Cup semifinal, followed by a league clash at home against Polokwane City.
