Moloisane: We Want To Win The League And Champions League
Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabo Moloisane has outlined the club’s ambitions, insisting that Amakhosi are determined to win both the Betway Premiership title and the CAF Champions League.
Chiefs have endured a lengthy wait for domestic league success, having last lifted the Premiership trophy in the 2014/15 season.
They also came close to continental glory in 2021, reaching the CAF Champions League final before losing to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Moloisane has emphasised the importance of winning these two major trophies as the Soweto giants look to restore their status among South Africa’s leading clubs.
“The star is needed here at home,” Moloisane said ahead of Chiefs’ Betway Premiership clash against Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
“That’s the first thing, man. We have an opportunity to see if we can do it this season in the league, of course, something that has eluded us for a long time. For me, in my first season, it’s about winning as many trophies as we can. That’s where it starts. The rest of the ambitions will come.
“Being born here, why was it not an option to come to this club, which has not been consistent when it comes to winning trophies, while rivals across the road have been winning trophies?
“Fortunately enough for me, this is a club I knew growing up. I grew up just down the road from here, so there’s a deep love that I have for Kaizer Chiefs.
“Growing up, this is literally all I knew. I remember, as a small boy, coming to fetch tickets here. For me, it’s about coming here to write my own history, to bring back the glory days, and to have my name counted among those who brought back the glory days and made the supporters happy.”
With a new coach at the helm for the 2026/27 season, Moloisane has also expressed confidence in the team’s progress, saying Chiefs are playing better football despite struggling to turn their performances into victories.
“I can definitely say the team is playing much better,” Moloisane added.
“We are playing really well with the system that the coach also instilled in the team. It’s just unfortunate that we don’t have the wins in some of the games that we throw, but I can tell you for sure that the system is working.”
